Gary Scott
Senior Producer
Gary’s background lies in both journalism and history. He is a busy and accomplished producer of prime-time television programmes while remaining a key creative member of our Visitor Experiences team, both conceptualising and delivering in-situ experiences.
Gary is currently (2018) producing TVNZ’s showcase docu-drama Mistress Mercy with the team from his high-rating historical telefeature, Nancy Wake: The White Mouse.
Some recent television credits include co-producing Prime TV’s hard-hitting Bullies series, and neuro-science special All In The Mind. For Stuff and TVNZ he is delivering the interactive documentary co-production Spurred On: NZ & Canada at Passchendaele while Gary also wrote, directed and produced The Secret Lives of Fussy Eaters for current affairs programme Sunday.
Those credits sit on top of producing primetime factual series Along For The Ride, and dramatised current affairs series War News, while his contemporary projects as Executive Producer include popular three-part investigative series The Trouble with Murder, Undercover, Line of Fire, and NZ Detectives.
Within the visitor experiences sector he has worked on Voyagers and the award-winning OurSpace for Te Papa, Vaeggen for the Museum of Copenhagen, and Outrageous Fortune: The Exhibition for Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Other Gibson Group documentaries include How to Spot a Cult, Who Ate All The Pies, Cartoonists Inc, Aspiring, Our Day To Remember and Sex And Lies In Cambodia. He is also the producer of complex history series Kiwis At War and Here To Stay for TVNZ, and was executive producer of the long running arts series Frontseat (98 episodes), and TV3's What's Your Verdict? (5 episodes). Further series include the TVNZ7 interstitials Tales from Te Papa (120 episodes) and The Court Report and Small Blacks TV (TV2). Gary also produces videos for corporate sector clients including the Ministry for Social Development.
Gary started working in television as an assignment editor and reporter for daily news, and then moved into documentary and factual series as writer and researcher. Prior to joining Gibson Group, he directed prime-time documentaries Point Of Impact: Air Accident Investigators and Flight 703: The Survivors (highly commended US International Film & Video Festival), alongside arts documentaries Op' Stars and Tutus 'n Town Halls.
Gary holds a BA in New Zealand History and has written for the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography and for the Waitangi Tribunal. He also has a post-graduate Diploma of Journalism.
