This one-hour documentary recounts the personal and group "rites of passage" experienced by a group of New Zealand secondary students as they traveled across Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Morocco, Senegal and New Caledonia.
The narrative thread is woven around the experiences, insights and comments of the four students throughout the journey. The students talk for themselves about what they're going through, both in English and in French. At times words escape them but their actions, body language and facial expression say it all visually.
The camera is up close and personal - there is interplay between the students, director and cameraman as each cope with the demands of the trip. And the students react to the invasions of the camera and probing questions of the crew. One further demand of their journey is the need to produce video postcards for French television. This gives an added dimension to their journey providing extra challenges as well as extra pressures.
