backch@t is an argumentative, provocative programme that takes an intelligent, informed and witty look at the stories that put the arts in the news and at the media debates that affect us all. It treats the arts seriously, and not as some fringe, minority interest area.
Hosted by Bill Ralston, backch@t is a departure from the tradition of reverential and gentle arts programmes, which preached only to a converted audience. backch@t aims to satisfy the core arts audience, but also to reach a wider audience - of people who might not ordinarily watch an 'arty' programme on the telly.
backch@t is both a forum for debate about the cultural sector and its unashamed advocate. It showcases the excellence that is everywhere in New Zealand art, with stories on the best events and performances from around the country.
Supported by reporters Mark Crysell and Jodi Ihaka and film Reviewer Chris Knox, backch@t is produced in a magazine style format by Gordon Harcourt.
