High Country Children

01/01/1986

About

Malcolm Prouting is eight years old. With his eleven year old sister Nerelli he lives on a high country sheep station in the south of New Zealand. The Prouting family have no close neighbours, local doctor, or corner store. They live in one of the coldest and most isolated parts of New Zealand.

This film shows their daily lives, from the excitement of mustering high up in the hills to mundane correspondence schoolwork at the kitchen table. The film also incorporates the children's regular use of dogs, horses and motorbikes.

The film is aimed at the eight to eleven year old age group and should provoke discussion amongst viewers about the different lifestyles of other children.
