Operation Hero returned to TV2 for a fourth season with more epic action, adventure and a brand new host, Erin Simpson, as six young New Zealanders tackle challenges inspired by the achievements of real-life Kiwi heroes.

The series explores what it takes to be a hero – bravery, courage and heart – by putting teams through their paces in tough challenges. And when it comes to the challenges, it’s definitely time for the players to get out of their comfort zone.

In this fourth season our young players race Navy boats in the Hauraki Gulf, they tackle the Army’s muddy assault course in Waiouru, they take to the skies in Air Force helicopters and then even come face to face with a tank full of cockroaches! Erin Simpson is series host and challenge referee – if a team breaks the rules, Erin steps in and dishes out penalties.

Teams collect points for winning and completing challenges and by the end of the series we crown one Operation Hero champion.

Host Erin Simpsons says, “The players in this season were up for all of the challenges, even if some took them out of their comfort zone. It was great to see how they all worked together to overcome obstacles. They were definitely competitive – after all someone has to win! But it was great to see how they supported each other through the whole experience.”

The challenges are inspired by men, women and children who risked their own safety to save others. There’s the story of 12 year old Tiana Levi who saved her younger brother and sisters from a house fire, and the story of 14 year old friends Angus Bailey and Liam Robinson who rescued the driver of a truck who had plummeted into a river.
